Why you should room at the Holiday Inn Austin Midtown

August 2, 2012 in News

The Fast Five:

When it comes to conventions, there’s nothing quite like staying at the hotel amidst all the action. The Holiday Inn Austin Midtown will be bustling with brony activity at Brony Fan Fair this September. There are many reasons to reserve your room at the hotel:

1. You get to attend all the activities with only a five minute walk back to your bed.

After a hard day of spending time enjoying the wonderful world of ponies, you’ll have a place to sleep in the same location where all the activities take place. You won’t have to spend gas or take time to travel outside the hotel, which gives you more opportunities to enjoy the vendors and artists. Plus, when you save money on travel, you can buy more pony, spend more time with other bronies and take part in late-night gaming and socializing.

2. You can store your stuff easily and make cosplay more convenient.

Though you could store your stuff in your car, the hot Texas sun is unforgiving and is quite unkind to plastic and perishable foods. If you’re planning on storing everything in your vehicle, consider if your possessions can handle the stress of the heat. With your own hotel room, you can drop-off your swag and make it back to the dealer’s room in the time it’d take you to watch a custom pony vid (which you could also do in the relaxed atmosphere of your room during down-time). If you happen to be a cosplayer, the quick access to your room will provide a convenient and quick way to change in and out of costume (especially if you have custom outfit you’d like to showcase over the weekend during special events. Cosplay contest anypony?).

3. You can host your own room party!

Celebrate your inner Pinkie Pie and create a room party of your own! Bring together your fellow bronies to share your love of fan fiction, PMV’s or just put the Friendship Express DVD into your lappy and watch those adorable ponies amongst newly-made friends. Just keep the volume down to a reasonable level and respect your neighbors.

4. You’ll be supporting the hotel and providing them with even more reason to host Brony Fan Fair 2013.

The staff at the Holiday Inn Austin Midtown have already been awesome enough to allow BFF to be hosted at their establishment and by staying at the hotel, you’ll be giving them even more reason to host BFF again. Plus, every bit of positive recognition you gain for the brony community will provide that much more opportunity for meetups, conventions and fellow bronies everywhere.

5. You are not just an attendee. YOU are Brony Fan Fair 2012!

Though there are many people behind the scenes who organize BFF, the attendees make up the most vital part of the convention. You are the ones we’re creating this convention for! You’re the ones who make it all worthwhile. And not only can you attend, but you can participate in the act of creating the convention experience you want. Volunteer, host a panel, run a booth or bring your own games. Everything you do adds to the convention atmosphere and makes Brony Fan Fair that much more special. Remember how Fluttershy added her wingpower to help all the pegasi succeed in “Hurricane Fluttershy?” Well, imagine HUNDREDS of Fluttershy’s all adding their adorableness and skill to a single convention. Overwhelming, isn’t it?

Come see at Brony Fan Fair this September 8th-9th in Austin Texas! We can’t wait to meet ya!

Welcome & Updates!

April 21, 2012 in Community, Guests, News, Programming

Whether you were referred by Equestria Daily or by a friend, welcome to the Brony Fan Fair website! We are so excited to have you here. You may be wondering, “A Brony convention in Austin? What’s all that about?” Well, to find that out, you should probably check out our About page, but here’s the short version of what B.F.F. is all about:

We’re a My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic fan convention in the city of Austin, Texas. It is our goal to bring together the Bronies of Texas to fearlessly celebrate their love for the show and to make new friends in the process!

We chose the name Brony Fan Fair due to the potential behind its acronym. The acronym, B.F.F., is also colloquially used as shorthand for “Best Friends Forever.” Plus the homonym between the word fanfare and the term fan fair just tickled our hooves.

But other then the idea, what have we been up to, you ask? Well, here’s a couple of things we were able to put together since the launch of our website.

Updates since our first post

  • Venue & Prices: We’re further along in negotiation with a few venues around Austin and are looking for the best price to use their space in order to provide you all with a great and affordable convention experience. We will have a venue secured by Mid-May.
  • Mascot: Brony Fan Fair will have its own pony designed to represent the company. Our good friend Amelie Belcher, the cartoonist behind Ami Army and a huge Brony/Pegasister, will be illustrating our mascot’s first appearance. Our mascot will be an Earth pony.
  • Guests: Of course we will see about getting anyone behind the show, but if you have any more suggestions on who we should ask to come down to Austin, please e-mail bronyfanfair@gmail.com with the subject, “GUEST SUGGESTION.”
  • Programming/Events: Check out this list for some of the events we intend on having at the convention! You’ll also be able to submit suggestions for panels.
  • Costume Contest Rules: A costume contest? Yeppers. We got a division for MLP cosplayers and a division for everypony else! Here are the rules for them. Note that anything written there may be changed at any time without notice. However, we’ll do our best to let you know in a news post.
  • POLICIES. Policies everywhere: Please read our policies as they represent what we will expect from our attendees in order to facilitate a great convention experience. Most of these are based on Anime Overload‘s policies, modified for Brony Fan Fair.

Hope you’re pleased with what we’ve been able to put up! We’ve come a while away since our Under Construction post and we hope you’ll check back soon for more updates.

In the meantime, we look forward to further interacting with you on our Facebook page!

Sincerely,
Peter C. Jiang
