Mascot Named! Panel Submission Open!

June 25, 2012 in Community, News, Programming

Brony Fan Fair Mascot Named!
A few weeks back, we asked people in the Brony community, “What should we name our mascot?” We were looking for a great name that best described her personality and aspirations, as well as lend support to Brony Fan Fair’s vision of promoting a pro-Brony environment at our convention.

“This name embodies her reach for the stars, the forward vision of Texas, and even matches her cutie mark (note that’s its rising, not falling).” – Facebook user Hazel Desmoulins

Please look forward to seeing more of our images with Rising Star. We’re also taking any fan art anyone would like to create of her. If we like it enough, we’ll even use it in future BFF media! E-mail bronyfanfair@gmail.com with Rising Star fan art to show how much you’re excited about Brony Fan Fair!

Panel Submission Now Open!
We are now taking panel submissions for Brony Fan Fair 2012. Do you want to run your own panel to celebrate the background ponies of My Little Pony? How about a game with My Little Pony as a theme? Submit any kind of panel you want and it doesn’t even have to be related to My Little Pony! Heck, we’ll even take panel submissions with Pokemon as a topic! Submit a panel for Brony Fan Fair now!

Panel Submission will be open until August 3rd, 2012, Midnight CST.

Name Our Mascot! A-KON Contest Reminder!

June 1, 2012 in Community, News

We need your help to name our mascot pony! Send us suggestions on what her name should be in this Facebook thread and on June 9th, we’ll select the name we feel best fits our mascot. You can also ask any questions in the same thread about her and we’ll do our best to answer.

To help you out, here’s a little bit about her.

“Using the bonds I have with my friends, I will grab onto space with our hooves!”

Every night from her observatory, this Earth pony sets down a plate of assorted donuts with a glass of milk and takes out her looking glass to observes the stars. With a donut in one hoof and her telescope in the other, she could tell you with food in her mouth how many stars are in Orion’s constellation, exactly how many moons Jupiter has, and how long it takes for light to travel from the sun to the earth. Despite any judgment she might receive from any other pony, she will tell you that the stars are calling out to her.

Find out more about her here: http://bronyfanfair.com/?page_id=352

We’re also at Project A-Kon this weekend, June 1st-3rd, 2012 in Dallas, Texas! To celebrate our appearance at the largest anime convention in the state of Texas, we’re launching a contest at A-Kon for a chance to win a My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic toy of the winner’s choice from $15 to $20 retail value! Here’s how the contest is going to work.

Welcome & Updates!

April 21, 2012 in Community, Guests, News, Programming

Whether you were referred by Equestria Daily or by a friend, welcome to the Brony Fan Fair website! We are so excited to have you here. You may be wondering, “A Brony convention in Austin? What’s all that about?” Well, to find that out, you should probably check out our About page, but here’s the short version of what B.F.F. is all about:

We’re a My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic fan convention in the city of Austin, Texas. It is our goal to bring together the Bronies of Texas to fearlessly celebrate their love for the show and to make new friends in the process!

We chose the name Brony Fan Fair due to the potential behind its acronym. The acronym, B.F.F., is also colloquially used as shorthand for “Best Friends Forever.” Plus the homonym between the word fanfare and the term fan fair just tickled our hooves.

But other then the idea, what have we been up to, you ask? Well, here’s a couple of things we were able to put together since the launch of our website.

Updates since our first post

  • Venue & Prices: We’re further along in negotiation with a few venues around Austin and are looking for the best price to use their space in order to provide you all with a great and affordable convention experience. We will have a venue secured by Mid-May.
  • Mascot: Brony Fan Fair will have its own pony designed to represent the company. Our good friend Amelie Belcher, the cartoonist behind Ami Army and a huge Brony/Pegasister, will be illustrating our mascot’s first appearance. Our mascot will be an Earth pony.
  • Guests: Of course we will see about getting anyone behind the show, but if you have any more suggestions on who we should ask to come down to Austin, please e-mail bronyfanfair@gmail.com with the subject, “GUEST SUGGESTION.”
  • Programming/Events: Check out this list for some of the events we intend on having at the convention! You’ll also be able to submit suggestions for panels.
  • Costume Contest Rules: A costume contest? Yeppers. We got a division for MLP cosplayers and a division for everypony else! Here are the rules for them. Note that anything written there may be changed at any time without notice. However, we’ll do our best to let you know in a news post.
  • POLICIES. Policies everywhere: Please read our policies as they represent what we will expect from our attendees in order to facilitate a great convention experience. Most of these are based on Anime Overload‘s policies, modified for Brony Fan Fair.

Hope you’re pleased with what we’ve been able to put up! We’ve come a while away since our Under Construction post and we hope you’ll check back soon for more updates.

In the meantime, we look forward to further interacting with you on our Facebook page!

Sincerely,
Peter C. Jiang
